A Short History of the Fair Exchange

We opened our store in December 1984 with five books which we put into the window along with the following sign:

HELP

Twenty-one years later we are still at it although - needless to say - our stock has increased and our concept has changed. Whereas during our first years we took books on consignment, hence the name "Fair Exchange", we now buy them - or more often offer a credit slip which can be used to get other books from us in what practically is a system of exchange.
Since we get all our books from our customers in relatively small amounts, we can pick and choose. This enables us to have a very good selection. In other words:
There is no "junk" in our shop.
Although we have to be selective to be able to offer the kind of books that we sell, we still try to keep our prices down to half the new price at most - but actually our prices are a lot lower than that.
But please: come and have a look!
