Established in 1984 by two English teachers, Paula from New York and Susan from Boston - two young women looking to broaden their horizons -,
the "Fair Exchange" has developed into the place to go for used English books in Berlin.
Located in Kreuzberg, the "Fair Exchange" has a total stock of about 20,000 books in English and in German - with a smattering of French and Spanish -
in a cosy atmosphere that invites browsing with a cup of tea.
Our stock is well-sorted and alphabetized and includes non-fiction books on such varied subjects as
psychology, history, science, art, philosophy, biographies, film etc.
The list is long. Our emphasis, however, is on literature - from the classics to contemporary fiction - in good reading copies both hardcover and paperback at reasonable prices.
(You will search in vain for an original Shakespeare manuscript in our store!)
We also offer DOVER THRIFT EDITIONS as new books.
We have collected our books from buying trips to the US and the UK, but also - and mostly - from our customers who bring books to sell and trade.
